Helping NZ churches govern well
How we started
Clare and Dan both started around 2002, working at a call centre for Telecom NZ (now known as Spark NZ), right as homes and businesses were making the shift from dial up to broadband. Somewhere in among the headsets and call queues, Clare started asking Dan about his church. After a fair few rounds of robust question and answer sessions, she decided to come along herself, and before long, she came into a relationship with God of her own.
Through that season, Clare and Dan worked alongside each other, along with a core group of other young adults, leading youth and getting involved in the music team. Dan still jokes that if it wasn't for him, she'd never have met her husband. He had the privilege of standing as best man at their wedding. Then life happened. Dan moved to Australia, and the two of them lost touch for a number of years.
Dan eventually moved back to New Zealand with a young family, and bumped into Clare again. That reconnection led to a conversation.
“I've got this idea and I think God is in this,” Clare said. “Let's do this together.”
That conversation started properly in November 2025 and kept building from there. Clare holds 51 percent and leads on strategy, policy and product. Dan took on a 49 percent shareholding in Good Church, focused on branding, marketing and market positioning.
Neither of them is the type to sit quietly in a corner. They're both extraverts with a word count to burn each day, who love God and have a genuine heart to help people and organisations do well. That's the energy behind Good Church, a mission to support churches across the country so good decision making can happen quickly, built off the documents that already hold every decision they've made before.
It's a simple story in the end. Two old friends, a shared conviction that churches deserve better support, and a partnership built on a solid foundation that's already proven itself over two decades.

Who we are
Clare Pattison
Founder & director
Clare brings over twenty years of experience in strategy and governance, working across public benefit entities to help organisations make decisions that hold up under real scrutiny and lead to genuine change, not just more paperwork.
Her background integrates industrial psychology, technology transitions, and hands on church life. She's spent years either on boards or advising them, working through hard governance questions, always looking for the plain English answer sitting underneath the jargon.
Clare is passionate about taking everything her career has taught her and adapting that for the AI context we now live in. Clare is a Certified AI Ethicist, via Oxford University. She wants to use that experience to help churches govern without the complexity, replacing it with clarity and certainty. She started Good Church because she believes every church board, no matter how small or under resourced, deserves the same clarity and confidence that larger organisations pay tens of thousands of dollars for.
Daniel Cooper
Director
Daniel has spent over 25 years in sales and leadership roles across a wide range of industries, building his career on one core skill: finding the honest, practical solution to a problem instead of just following the crowd.
Growing up as a pastor's kid gave Daniel an early, close up view of church life. That youth work with Clare, layered on top, gave him plenty more. Between the two seasons, he's seen just about every kind of example and need a church can have, from the practical to the deeply personal.
At Good Church, Daniel leads branding, marketing and market positioning, shaping how the platform looks, sounds and feels to the churches it's built for. His background has taught him to question strategically and look for solutions through creative thinking, building out answers that actually work rather than just sound good on paper.
Daniel's core focus has always been simple: how can he help organisations and the people in them solve the problems and challenges they're facing. Good Church is that focus put to work for church leadership, taking the complexity and weight churches carry for their communities, members and mission, and making some of that simpler.
